Today, I went to the Yves Saint Laurent's retrospective at Le Petit Palais in Paris. Although I had to queue during 45 minutes, I really enjoyed it. The haute couture designs were wonderful but I found them more like costumes than clothes. The ready-to-wear designs were amazingly inspirationnal, particularly:
his 1958 collection for Dior
his first collections for his own Maison de couture during the 60's: the way he always put a hat to complete the outfit, his use of bows and lavallières, the big big pull-overs with pencil skirts.
En Melody de Serge Gainsbourg avec Jane Birkin, 1971
Di Doo Dah by Jane Birkin, 1973
I don't like her too much, especially the way she is always speaking of her lovestory with Gainsbourg, but she is a real living icon in the fashion world so I'm trying to understand why...
Yesterday, I went to an exhibition at Les arts décoratifs museum called An ideal story of fahion Part 1 1970's 1980's. It was really interesting. The guiding principle is to highlight the more interesting fashionshows and outfits of these two decades. The exhibition is really comprehensive and has made me (re-) discover the fashion of this period. I didn't know for example that Yojhi Yamamoto was already a successful designer back in the 70'S or that Thierry Mugler organised a HUGE fashion show in 1984 at Le Parc des Princes. You could book you ticket to go and see the show, exactly like for musical or another kind of show.
The restored film is wonderful but I don't like too much the end of the story: the young girl dies unable to choose between dance and love. For me, there's no choice to make between the two, that's just the same energy, no opposition there.
I can't say I knew him before today but apparently, he is a real hip-hop legend. So here is an article about his death and below the music video of his collaboration with MC Solaar in 1993. What I find interesting about old RAP sounds is that you clearly can hear the blues jazz references.
A giant fireball crossed the US sky on Friday night. There's no official explanation about what it might be but the NASA has registered a huge meteor fall around this period. Here an article about it and here the GEIPAN website, the french official organism for Unknown Flying Phenomenons.
As Perez Hilton points it out, there's a massive influence of Lady Gaga and Beyonce in that but still a preal artistic proposal. Believ me there's somethnig going on about corean pop and there's definitely something I love about there sexy girly things!!
