Another one?

First position (in French: Le Concours de Danse) is a documentary by Bess Kargman (her first film) about the Youth America Grand Prix and 6 of its young contestants. It will be out in french theater on december, the 12th. Will it be just another documentary on ballet? Or will it be a pure moment of emotion? Judging by the energic and BIOUTIFOUL posters, I think I will love it!

Funny to see how the ballet technic was less precise at the time and the girls bigger, stockier....

Seeing all the efforts humans need to do to jump 1 meter above the ground, the birds must poke fun at us!! I think the poetic universal ballet spirit is all about that: the competition with nature. We, Human Beings, won't let it win without fighting....at least, dancers won't!

This is BEAUTIFUL, poetic. Even when they are doing very simple movements, they're doing it dancing, beautifully, poetically. This is true dancers. Aurélie Dupont is really my favorite one! The choreography is so light, delightfully graceful!!

The restored film is wonderful but I don't like too much the end of the story: the young girl dies unable to choose between dance and love. For me, there's no choice to make between the two, that's just the same energy, no opposition there.

The Ballets Russes

For Christmas, the Paris opera ballet is performing Diaghilev's Ballets russes . Exceptionnally, on the 22nd of december, the performance will be broadcasted live in a couple of french theaters. More information, here.
